The week or two prior to your parent meeting, send home instructions to your parents to ask their teen of their bedroom. In the instructions include the following questions the parent is to ask the teen about stuff in the bedroom:

Why this poster/picture hung?

What does this item represent?

What memory do you have from this?

Why do these items not get put away in their right place?

Why is this item next to your bed?

Add some questions of your own.

Encourage the parents to spend quite some time in this discussion listening to all the insight the teen is giving. Warn them to not roll their eyes, belittle anything, or use this as a time to talk about cleaning the bedroom. When all the discussion is done, have the parent ask to borrow an item from the bedroom which they believe symbolizes a significant prayer request or thanksgiving about that child. If the teen does not want the parent to take something, then tell them not to. For the week or two prior to the meeting, have the parent place that object in a spot where he/she will remember to look at it and pray for their child.

Have every parent bring their one item to the scheduled meeting. Have a time of "Show and Tell" with the items. Each item will bring up different discussion and that will be good for your parents. Let the discussion flow but guard against another parent judging too much or too harshly about certain items. You are needed to guide this revealing "Show & Tell." Stop and pray whenever you feel led as a way to close a discussion and move on to the next item which may bring up a completely different topic.

This meeting may go "all over the map" of the teen world but your parents need to be taken on that trip. Your role in this meeting is very important and no one else can replace you. You are the one taking the parents on this trip and you are to be the skilled tour guide.
